Did you know that bone density naturally declines with age? In fact, 50% of people over age 50 have lost enough of their bone mass to be diagnosed with osteopenia and 25% of people over age 50 have osteoporosis. Lower bone density means less bone strength, so a person with low bone density is more likely to break a hip or break her pelvis with a fall. If that weren’t scary enough, about 50% of people over age 65 who break a hip die within 6 months. Yes, you read that right. They DIE.
Osteopenia and osteoporosis are preventable. Even once bone density starts to decline, the decline can be slowed. There is ONE secret to preventing and/or slowing loss of bone density: weight bearing EXERCISE. The younger we are when we start exercising, the better the results. But it’s NEVER too late to START. This is why an acupuncturist (Lisa) and a personal trainer specializing in working with women over age 40 (Ana) have teamed up to create a series of videos to teach weight bearing resistance training to ANYONE with a body and some motivation. We’re passionate about preventing bone loss, maintaining strength, and facilitating the self-confidence which comes with a strong body. These exercises are easy, can be done at home with minimal equipment, and have been PROVEN to help maintain both bone density AND muscle mass.
